We are excited to begin Semester 2 on Monday, February 2.

Please take note of the modified schedule that will be in effect on February 2. Students can also view their semester 2 timetables on Teach Assist. We’re looking forward to a wonderful Semester 2 and appreciate your continued support.

Please have a look at the attached modified schedule for Monday, February 2, 2026. The day will be a combination of Semester 1 Exam Review and Semester 2 Start Up.

Semester 2 Timetables

Semester 2 Student Timetables are available for students on Teach Assist. 

Upcoming Math Contests at Emily Carr Secondary School

Emily Carr will be hosting the University of Waterloo Math and Computing Contests this semester. Strong performance can strengthen university applications, scholarships, and admissions to math, engineering, computer science, and science programs. Please be advised that the contests usually take place in school during the morning. Students writing the contest will likely miss portions of their morning classes and are responsible for making up the work.

 

The Grade 9 Pascal, Grade 10 Cayley and Grade 11 Fermat math contests will take place on Wednesday February 25. You have until February 6th to sign up. 

The Grade 12 Euclid math contest will take place on Tuesday March 31. You have until March 3rd to sign up. 

The Canadian Computing Contest will take place on Wednesday February 18. You have until February 10th to sign up.

Guidance Update


ONTARIO COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES  is NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2026 for equal consideration. *In addition to counsellor support, students have been provided with links to video tutorials to assist with the application process in their “All Things Grade 12” Google Classroom.

COURSE SELECTIONS FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR will open in MBP on Thursday, February 12th at 9:00 am and will close on Friday, February 20th, 4:00 p.m.  Please see some key points below to assist in your conversations with your students:

  • Students will participate in a Course Selection assembly during period 1 the week of February 2nd - 4th Gr 9; 5th Gr 10; & 6th Gr 11.
  • The ECSS Course Offerings Fair will take place on Monday, February 9th in the main hallway during the lunch period from 11:25 am - 11:55 am. This is an opportunity for students to connect with course experts to help make informed decisions about their 2026-2027 course selections and pathway programming.
  • Grade 12 Students who are graduating and any other students who are not returning, must submit a “Not Returning" response at this time to finalize their next steps. Counsellors will be circulating to grade 12 period 1 classes on February 10th and 11th to discuss this task and answer any questions.
  • Course Selection Student Lunchtime Support in the Library on Friday, February 13th and Thursday, February 19th at 11:25 am - 11:55 am.
  • Please note that course selections are not completed/locked in until parent/guardian has approved selections via email (email comes from myBlueprint - parents/guardians should check junk mail folder if they cannot find the email).

Supporting East Asian Students (SEAS) 2025 - 2026 Family Engagement Series  Pathway Planning and High School Course Selection Workshop Part 2 - Families, parents, and caregivers are invited to join us for this Supporting East Asian Students (SEAS) Family Engagement evening to deepen their understanding of pathway planning and the course selection process in the Ontario Education System. 

YRDSB Teachers and Guidance Counsellors will be delivering information focused on:

  • Understanding the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requirements
  • Exploring pathways and planning for post-secondary opportunities
  • Navigating the high school course selection process in YRDSB

 

Date: Thursday, February 5th, 2026  Time: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm  

Location: Unionville High School, 201 Town Centre Blvd, Unionville, ON L3R 8G5 

The workshop session will be in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Please register by Tuesday, February 3, 2026. 

There will be a representative from the University of Trent in the main hallway outside of the cafeteria from 10:45 am until noon on Thursday, February 26th. They will be there to answer any questions related to Trent University, campus life, program requirements, and so much more.

Save the date! YRDSB and YCDSB will be hosting a Post-Secondary Fair for Grades 9-12+ students, families, and staff to connect with Admissions, Recruitment, Accessibility, and Student Support Offices. There will be a special presentation, Accessing Support in Post-Secondary: How Accessibility Services Help You Succeed, by the Regional Assessment and Resource Centre (RARC) and information booths from the participating post secondary institutions. Date: March 25, 2026 - Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM Location: Sir William Mulock Secondary School (705 Columbus Way, Newmarket, ON L3X 2M7).
